The county’s only children’s hospice for Essex will be throwing open their doors this month and inviting the public in.
Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley is hosting an Open Doors event on Sunday 26th June between 11am and 3pm for people to visit and have a tour of the hospice and the grounds and find out more about the charity which provides respite and end of life care to seriously ill babies, children and teenagers.
As well as looking around the hospice there will be entertainment in the form of singers and dancers and stalls with raffles, tombolas and gifts for sale. Also there on the day will be miniature horses from Khantisci.
Little Havens Ward Sister, Birgit Duellberg-Webb, says,
“There are many preconceptions about hospice care and what we do here at Little Havens. The truth is that no two days are the same. The Care Team here are incredibly skilled professionals and the children that access our care have a range of very complex conditions. Yes, children do come to us for end of life care and we provide post bereavement support for families, but there is also a lot of fun and laughter that happens here.
“It is this side of the hospice that we want to show the local community and to give them a better understanding of what we provide here and why it is so important that people continue to support us. Because without them we simply couldn’t care for the number of children who need our care.”
