Astare – which opened on Newland Street last year – will be offering a special two-course menu that will give customers a chance to sample their Turkish specialities including a sharing starter platter. There will also be a raffle and the money raised from the evening will go to Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice.
Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley is the only place in Essex wholly dedicated to caring for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
The J’s Hospice – which is also on Newland Street in Witham – provides hospice care in the home and community across Essex for young adults aged 16-40 with life-limiting conditions and their families. It focuses on their individual needs and helps them to manage their illness as much as possible so they can concentrate on leading a happy and fulfilled life.
When the owner of Astare, Riza Es, found out that The J’s Hospice’s office is just a few doors away from his restaurant, he was very keen to support his neighbours and Little Havens Hospice.
He explained, ’We want to help the local community and give something back. Little Havens and The J’s do such a great job in caring for babies, children and young adults and we want to support them by raising awareness of this work and much-needed funds.’’
Marianna Alexandrou, Community Fundraiser for Little Havens and The J’s Hospices, said, “Thank you to Riza and everyone at Astare for supporting Little Havens and The J’s. We don’t charge a penny for our care and we must raise over £65,000 each week to be there for everyone that needs us, for as long as we’re needed.
“The Charity Night sounds like a brilliant evening of fantastic food. The money raised will help us to continue ‘Making every day count’ for the babies, children and young adults that really rely on our care.”
Tables are available at the Charity Night from 6.30pm and tickets cost £20. To book, contact Marianna on 01245 475474.
Little Havens and The J’s are both part of Havens Hospices, which also includes Fair Havens Hospice. All the hospice services help by controlling pain and medication, offering respite and caring for babies, children, young people and adults at the end of their lives. This free, specialist care is there for as long as it is needed, within the home, in the community and at the two hospices.
