What a Result! Barclays 6th Annual Play on the Pitch Event is a Huge Success

Business professionals from across Southend ditched their suits for studs on 16th May 2019 to raise vital funds for an Essex Hospice Charity.

Barclays hosted the game at Southend United Football Club’s Roots Hall stadium to raise money for Havens Hospices, which care for adults, babies, children and young people for as long as it’s needed, within the home, in the community and at the two hospices.

The football match on Thursday 16th May raised just over £33,000 including match funding by Barclays and saw workers from the bank as well as local companies MWS Accountants, Wilkins Kennedy, Paul Robinson, Barrons, Nairnsey Fisher & Lewis, BTMK, Ayers & Cruiks and Rickard Luckin compete with Southend United Football Club ex-players and legends managing each team. The Southend Business Professionals triumphed with a 4-1 win over Barclays.

Corporate Banking Relationship Director at Barclays, Peter Laight said,

“We are delighted with the amount raised for Havens Hospices through our Play on the Pitch event this year. We would like to thank all those that took part to make this happen, including the business professional teams and Southend United FC.

“Barclays encourages us to get involved in the causes we care about and this year is such an important year for Havens what with the new home being built. We thoroughly enjoy helping Havens by running this event and are thrilled to have raised this money for such a worthy cause.”

Play on the Pitch has now raised over £150,000 for the charity over the past six years.

Lydia, Senior Business Development Officer at Havens Hospices said, “On behalf of Havens Hospices, I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved with Play on the Pitch. It was a fantastic evening and a great game of football between Barclays and the Southend Business Professionals.

“We must raise over £100,000 each week to be there for everyone who needs us, helping to control pain and medication, offering respite and caring for adults and children at the end of their lives. Havens Hospices can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters, like Barclays and the Southend Business Professionals who put on these events and continue to raise an incredible amount of money year after year. Together, they’re ‘Making every day count’ for those who need us.”
