Teams Needed for Charity Golf Day

A popular annual golfing tournament is returning on Friday 10th May, raising money for a charity that cares for young adults across Essex.

The J’s Hospice Golf Day will be held at the Colne Valley Golf Club at Earls Colne for the sixth consecutive year.

In 2018, 68 golfers took part in teams of four and raised around £6,000 for The J’s Hospice which supports young adults with life-limiting conditions and their families across Essex, in the comfort of their homes and in the community. This money has helped the charity to provide a range of services including tailored nursing and emotional care, advice, end of life care and bereavement support.

This year, the programme for the Golf Day begins with coffee and bacon or vegetarian rolls at the registration, followed by a fun putting competition and an 18-hole round of golf. It finishes with a two-course dinner reception and prize giving in the evening plus a raffle and an auction. There will be both four ball team and individual prizes, as well as a bottle of champagne for the golfer who gets nearest to the pin on each of the six ‘par 3’ holes.

The event is organised by Barry Linger who has been a passionate supporter and also a Trustee of The J’s Hospice over the past ten years.

He said, “I am delighted that the beautiful Colne Valley Golf Course will be the venue for our annual J’s Golf Day again this year. It promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable day for everyone as this course is a good test of golf for the lower handicap players, while at the same time giving the higher handicappers a chance to compete well.”

It costs £220 for a team of four to take part and Barry is encouraging new supporters to sign up this year to help raise more money for The J’s.

He explained, “The J’s Hospice helps young adults with life-limiting conditions to live life to the full, however short and it must raise over £19,000 each week to be there for everyone who needs this care and support. The Golf Day is an enjoyable way to support The J’s and further this much-needed work. We have many old friends joining us this year and I am pleased to say that we have some newcomers as well. We would be delighted to accept entries from any additional teams, so please contact us.”

Local businesses can also be part of the Golf Day and show their support for The J’s by sponsoring one or more of the 18 holes on the course. An advert for the company will be displayed at each hole that they sponsor.
