Pub and Patrons Make Magic for Charity

Last weekend, families created magical memories and helped raise money for a new hospice in Southend.

The White Hart Pub held a Wizarding Weekend to help Havens Hospices raise the final funds needed for a new Fair Havens Hospice which the charity is building opposite Priory Park.

On Saturday 29th of June the pub in Thundersley hosted live entertainment and two workshops, including creating potions and pizza making. There was also a variety of family friendly entertainment in the pub’s Beer Garden including games, raffles and in the evening entertainment from 1950’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Jive band ‘The KoolKatz Band.’ On Sunday night the pub also hosted a Wizarding Quiz. Both days were well attended by the local community and they raised nearly £900 to be put towards new Fair Havens.

The pub wanted to support a charity and chose Havens Hospice, as some of their customers have benefitted or have family members who have been cared for by the charity which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice.

The event was organised by the pub and the charity’s friends’ group, Havens Hospices Helping Hands, who are currently trying to raise £57,000 for the new Fair Havens which is being built by Barnes Construction.

Deborah Brownsill, Landlady of The White Hart said, “We were really pleased with the turnout this weekend and the wizarding theme went down really well with our patrons. I’m incredibly pleased and proud that together we raised £876.23 for the charity, which will help them build the new Fair Havens Hospice, so that they can continue ‘Making every day count’ for adults and families across the region.”

The charity now only has £400,000 left to raise and the hospice is expected to be completed by Spring 2020 and will cover the population of Southend, Castle Point and Rochford. It will bring together a range of specialist services to support people in making choices about their care from the day they receive their diagnosis, as they journey with their illness and as the end of their life approaches.
