The White Hart Pub is holding a Wizarding Weekend to help Havens Hospices raise the final funds needed for a new Fair Havens Hospice which the charity is building opposite Priory Park.
On Saturday 29th of June the pub in Thundersley will host live entertainment and two workshops, including potion making, pizza making and more. They will also have a variety of family friendly entertainment in the gardens including games, raffles and a visit from some ponies from The Ramblers Riding Club. There will also be evening entertainment from The KoolKatz Band and a Wizarding Quiz will be held on Sunday night.
The pub wanted to support a charity and chose Havens Hospices, as some of their customers have benefited or have family members who have been cared for by the charity which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice. In October 2018, Havens Hospices started to build the new Fair Havens so that they can continue caring for adults from across Southend, Castle Point and Rochford who have been diagnosed with an illness that cannot be cured.
The event is being organised by the pub and the charity’s friends’ group, Havens Hospices Helping Hands, who are currently trying to raise £57,000 for the new Fair Havens which is being built by Barnes Construction. The charity now only has £400,000 left to raise and the hospice is expected to be completed by Spring 2020 and will cover the population of Southend, Castle Point and Rochford.
It will bring together a range of specialist services to support people in making choices about their care from the day they receive their diagnosis, as they journey with their illness and as the end of their life approaches.
Debs Brownsill, Landlady of The White Hart said,
“This is going to be a magical weekend helping a great charity. I hope the local community will come together and join in the fun to fundraise to help build the new Fair Havens Hospice, so that they can continue ‘Making every day count’ for adults and families across the region.”
The Wizarding Weekend opens at 12:30pm on Saturday 29th June and will continue until 11pm. Entry to the workshops is priced at £7.50 per child and can be paid for on the day. The Wizarding Quiz starts at 7pm on Sunday 30th June is priced at £5 per person and teams of up to six people can enter.
