Local Hospice Workers Lace-Up Running Shoes for Race4Business

Nurses and carers from a local children’s hospice will be pulling on their running shoes to take part in the Havens Hospices Race4Bussiness fundraiser.

The event, which takes place in Chelmsford city centre on 29th June, invites teams from Essex businesses to take part in the 3.5 mile race which raises vital funds for the Essex-based hospice charity providing palliative and supportive care to people of all ages through its hospice services Fair Havens and Little Havens.

Senior Nurse at Little Havens, Melissa Howell, 43, will be running through Chelmsford’s Admirals and Central parks alongside twelve colleagues from the Hospice at Home and In-Patient Care Team.

She said, “Being part of the Care Team at Little Havens, I get to see first-hand the difference the charity makes for local families. Taking part in Race4Business is a great opportunity for the Care Team to get together, support a charity that’s close to all of our hearts and help raise money for the hospice.

“I will be accompanied by my colleagues around the course, but it’s also a privilege to be taking part alongside over 400 participants from Essex businesses who are all running to show their support for Havens Hospices.”

The other team members from Little Havens include nurses Emma Simpson, Maxine Littman, Liz Pearman and Lindsay Wallman, Care Assistants Tracy Webb, Jake Wilkinson, Helen Walton, Heather Vickers, Nina Jaques, Sue Bridger, Ward Clerk Lorraine Wilce and Wellbeing Activities Coordinator Lucy Smith.

Later this year, Melissa will be running the London Marathon for Little Havens, so the Race4Business event is helping her to prepare and train for the prestigious 26.2 mile run in October.

After participants have finished their run, food and drink stalls, music and entertainment will be on offer, providing a great social evening with work colleagues out of the office.

The mainly flat course has no minimum speed or standard of fitness required; participants can walk, jog or run making it suitable for a range of ages and abilities. To make the run more fun, there will be prizes for the winning individuals and teams, plus best fancy dress.

Lydia Plews, Business Development Manager at Havens Hospices says: “It’s thanks to events like Race4Business that the charity can continue providing its specialist hospice care free of charge.

“We can’t wait to welcome hundreds of enthusiastic supporters from local businesses looking to have a fun-filled summer’s evening with colleagues as well as raising vital funds for local families across Essex who rely on our specialist palliative nursing and supportive care.

“We know our nurses, staff and race participants would appreciate everybody’s cheers and support on the day so if you are in Chelmsford on the evening of 29th June be sure to give our runners a wave.”

This year’s Race4Business event is kindly sponsored by businesses: Utilize Plc, Birketts, Willmott Dixon, MHA Macintyre Hudson, Tangent International, Gallagher, Fiserv and MS Amlin.

It’s £20 per person to take part and to register a team please visit www.havenshospices.org.uk/race4business before Monday 27th June.
