Councillor Colin Riley announced that he will be supporting Havens Hospices for the next year as one of his charities of the year and will be holding a variety of events throughout the year to fundraise for the charity, which cares for children, adults and young people with life-limiting illnesses across Essex.
The first event Councillor Riley is organising is a charity meal at Latinos Restaurant in Hadleigh on Thursday 19th September fundraising for Little Havens Hospice. Tickets cost £25 and all money raised will be donated to help the Thundersley based children’s hospice continue ‘Making every day count’ for the families they care for.
The charity event starts at 7pm with a three-course meal plus musical entertainment from vocalist Evangeline Brown, there will also be a raffle which raise additional funds for the charity.
The Mayor has already started organising future events to support Havens Hospices as well as his other charities – Trustlinks and Yellow Door. These include a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea planned for March 2020, a quiz night, Christmas Carols and even a mini Christmas market.
The Mayor also supported Havens Hospices by joining them as a volunteer at the Southend Carnival alongside 60 other volunteers he said, “I am very pleased to be supporting Havens Hospices as one of my charities of the year. The free specialist care that they provide to the local families in their homes, in the community and at their two hospices is incredible – I hope to raise as much money as possible to help them continue to care and support the local community for as long as they are needed.
“Volunteering on their charity float at this year’s carnival was a fantastic experience, I highly recommend volunteering to everyone. I am looking forward to joining the charity at other community events throughout the year as part of my support and I hope I can inspire others to volunteer too because as well as being incredibly rewarding it is also a lot of fun.”
Havens Hospices Community Fundraiser Sally Bridger said, “We’re really excited that Councillor Colin Riley has chosen us as one of his charities for the next 12-months. His pledge to support us as both a fundraiser and volunteer is fantastic and, in our eye’s, makes him a true ‘Havens Hero.’”
Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice, is there when a family is told there is no cure for their loved one’s illness, offering respite and caring for adults, babies, children and young people. As a registered charity, it must raise over £100,000 every week to be there for everyone who needs them. It can only do this with the help of its supporters like Councillor Riley who fundraise for them.
