Company Smashes Fundraising Target for Southend’s New Hospice

A local business of a global company has exceeded their fundraising target for a new hospice in Southend, which will eventually care for thousands of adults across the South East Essex.

Olympus KeyMed, based in Southend-on-Sea chose to support new Fair Havens, which Havens Hospices is currently building opposite Priory Park, as their Charity of the Year for 2018-2019. The medical equipment manufacturer based in Stock Road set their fundraising target to £42,000 for the new Hospice’s In Patient Reception.

However, when members of Olympus KeyMed joined Havens Hospices on site at the new Fair Havens premises recently to see what their fundraising is helping to create, they announced that they have, in fact, exceeded that target by over £30,000 in just one year – presenting the charity with a cheque of £74,738.94.

The additional funds raised by Olympus KeyMed will be used to help furnish one of the Wellbeing Rooms, which will be used for therapeutic services, including Complementary Therapy, to help the charity give more patients and their carers a little ‘me time’ and much needed relaxation and recuperation.

Nic Vincent from Olympus KeyMed said “We are absolutely thrilled that we were able to not only hit our target but raise almost the same amount again to help Havens Hospices get even closer to being ready to move in! Many of us drive, cycle or walk past the site on the way to and from work so it was very exciting see the progress up close. I’m really proud of everyone at Olympus KeyMed for their efforts this year which will ultimately help an amazing charity care for twice as many patients in the future.”

Lydia Plews, Business Development Officer for Havens Hospices said “It has been absolutely wonderful to work with Olympus KeyMed over the last year and we have thoroughly enjoyed seeing and hearing all about their different fundraisers from bake sales to team day activities. It has been a pleasure to show them around the site so that they can see what all that effort is helping to build, and we are all astounded by how much they have exceeded their target by.

“On behalf of everyone at Havens Hospices, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Olympus KeyMed, for your dedication and generosity – you truly are Havens Heroes and you will be helping us fulfil our promise of ‘Making every day count’ for adults and their families in South East Essex for as long as we’re needed.”
