Children’s Hospice Raises Over £50,000 at Their 13th Annual Ascot with a Twist Event

On Thursday 20th and Friday 21st June, Orsett Hall Hotel opened its doors for the thirteenth annual Little Havens Hospice’s Ascot with a Twist event.

Every year Little Havens hosts this exclusive event, traditionally a Ladies Day event – raising vital funds for the charity. However, last year the charity that cares for children from across Essex with life-limiting illnesses decided to add a second date which was open to all.

Nearly 500 guests were greeted with a Pimm’s reception over the two days, before enjoying a three-course summer luncheon. Throughout the day there was live entertainment from Saxophonist David ‘The Sax’ Walker, Mecca Bingo Southend, fusion band Tres Live and The Old Hat Duo and of course fundraising games to keep everyone happy whilst they wait for the racing and ‘fun-betting’ to begin.

The official Royal Ascot races were live-streamed, and guests were given the opportunity to bet for prizes, try their luck in the raffle and also enter luxury envelope draws to win prizes including a Fortnum & Mason Hamper, ‘basket of booze’ and Luxury London Break with two tickets to see the Lion King, a 5 Star Hotel stay and a meal for two at a Michelin Star Restaurant!

The charity was supported by a number of local businesses and individuals to bring Ascot with a Twist back for its thirteenth year including Paul Robinson Solicitors who sponsored the second day, BAB Contractors and Lesley Bines who sponsored the ‘fun-betting’ prizes, John Harrow of Illuminated Events who donated a selfie pod for the guests to enjoy, Choc-a-lot Fountains who donated the chocolate fountain on Ladies Day and Jean Cousins who made the table centerpieces

Cathryn Wood Events Fundraiser at Havens Hospices said

“Every year we’re overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the local business community who donate prizes or sponsor activities and this year was no different, a big thank you to every business, supporter and individual who donated raffle prizes for the day including David Faichney at Barnes Construction who is building the new Fair Havens Hospice in Southend and all their subcontractors who have donated thousands of pounds worth of prizes for the event.

“Secondly, I would like to thank our two hosts Jeff Saint and Little Havens Patron Su Harrison. You both make the event so enjoyable for everyone who attends, we were sad to find out that this was the last year Jeff would be comparing Ladies Day as he has been our host since we started this event in 2006. We will all miss you Jeff but wish you all the luck in the world for your next endeavour.

“Over the years Ascot with a Twist we’ve always been blown away by the generosity of the ladies and now gentlemen who join us and this year we’re on track to raising a record breaking £55,000. So, on behalf of Little Havens, a huge thank you to everyone who came to the event and helped us raise such a tremendous amount of money for the charity.

“Through their kindness they are all helping a child living with a serious illness be as pain free and comfortable as possible. They are truly helping us to fulfil our promise of ‘Making every day count’ for babies, children, teenagers and their families across Essex. We are now looking forward to next year’s event and are hoping to make it even bigger and better than this year!”

Ascot with a Twist will be back in 2020 and details on how to book will be available later this year. It is one of many events that Havens Hospices runs to raise vital funds so they can be there for everyone who needs them. For more information about our other events please click here [].
