The Jacks Centre Bowls Club has raised over £3,400 for Little Havens Hospice – the only place in Essex wholly dedicated to caring for babies and children with life-limiting illnesses.
The money was raised by members of the bowls club and their families and friends through a wide range of activities including a ladies’ coffee morning at Jacks, a sponsored bike ride, a tombola and raffle, the sale of diaries and teddies and individual donations.
The most recent event was a Ladies Gala Day competition at Jacks on 22nd February where 28 bowling teams of four competed, travelling from across Suffolk and Essex to take part.
The fundraising has been led by Linda and Richard Pugh who are part of the Bowls Committee. They are both passionate supporters of Little Havens Hospice.
“Richard and I visited the hospice in Thundersley two years ago and we were overwhelmed with the whole experience. As we were shown around, we sensed the passion, love and commitment from the staff that worked there and the feeling of happiness that shone through amidst an environment that should, by all accounts, be a sad place. It made us realise that hospices are not sad, depressing places but places of love and support.
“Little Havens is a very special place with an amazing empathy and understanding for the children they care for. They also realise the importance of supporting the families of these children and involving them in all stages of the children’s care. We could not think of any better charity to support.”
Linda and Richard recently met with Marianna Alexandrou, Community Fundraiser for Little Havens, who was delighted to receive the cheque for £3,444.44 on behalf of the charity.
“Thank you to the members of The Jacks Centre Bowls Club for this generous donation. Little Havens Hospice needs to raise over £46,000 each week to be there for everyone who need us, helping to control pain and medication, offering respite and caring for children at the end of their lives. We don’t charge a penny for our care and that’s only possible because of donations made by people like you.”
