Broomfield football team cheer on local children’s hospice

A local Broomfield football team is throwing its support behind Essex’s only children’s hospice this season.

Broomfield Tigers U9’s will be supporting Little Havens by sporting the charity’s logo on their football kits and setting up a fundraiser asking supporters to make a donation to their JustGiving page every time the team score a goal.

The team has chosen to support the children’s hospice, which provides palliative and supportive care to children and young people living with a complex or incurable condition, because of the care the hospice has given to local child Hope Lane, 9, and her family.

Paul Miles from the Broomfield Tigers team says: “Broomfield FC is a friendly club that provides opportunities for children, young people and adults to play football in the community. This season BGL Markets PLC generously offered to sponsor two new kits for the Under 9’s Tigers and we decided to use this opportunity to show our appreciation for an excellent charity that works in the area.

“We chose to support Little Havens because of the invaluable help that they give to children like Hope Lane, an effervescent 9-year old who has Cerebral Palsy and is determined to keep pushing the boundaries of what her body will allow her to do, but this requires expensive therapy. Charities like Little Havens not only give direct support to Hope and other children, organising bespoke events and outings, but also provide respite care to families.

“Broomfield Tigers Under 9’s is now proud to carry the Little Havens logo on our shirt for the coming season and will be encouraging parents and supporters to make donations every time that we score a goal.”

Rachel Hawksworth, Voluntary Income Team Leader at Havens Hospices said: “We can’t thank the Broomfield Tigers U9’s team enough for their incredible support. So far they have raised over £300 towards our specialist care which could pay for around 15 hours of hospice care in the home of a child or young person, providing personal and therapeutic care.

“It’s because of the support and generosity from community groups like the Broomfield Tigers that our care exists free of charge – every pound raised really is making such a difference to local families who rely on our hospice care.”
