Birthday celebrations for two Havens Hospices charity shops

Two local charity shops which raise money to provide palliative nursing and supportive care for adults and children living with complex or incurable conditions, have recently celebrated their anniversaries.

Last week, the Rochford charity shop, based in the Market Square in West Street celebrated trading for 10 years and the Shoebury shop, located in West Road celebrated raising vital funds for the hospices for 20 years.

Havens Hospices charity shops rely entirely on the generosity of their local communities both as customers and volunteers. But, most importantly, as donors of good quality saleable items.

Thanks to the community, every donation or purchase is helping Havens Hospices provide vital specialist care and support.

Eany Gardner, Shoebury’s Shop Manager said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to our customers because it is wasn’t for them Havens Hospices wouldn’t be able to continue caring.

“I would also like to thank anyone who has donated any items to our shop – because of you, we turn donations into pounds which go a long way for the charity which does not charge a penny for their care.”

Pauline Cotts, Rochford’s Shop Manager said: “Thank you to all our customers, supporters over the years and of course our volunteers, who dedicate their time to help with the running of the shop.

“If it wasn’t for everyone’s support, the shop wouldn’t exist so here is to another 10 years, and hopefully more, of continuing to raise money for Havens Hospices.”

Since opening, both shops have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for Havens Hospices.

Whether local people are downsizing their wardrobe or having a spring clean, the hospices’ charity shops are grateful for any donations. Last year, one million items were sold through the charity shops.
