Big Fundraising Boost for New Hospice

The fundraising appeal to complete the building of a new adult hospice for Southend has had a huge boost thanks to a charitable foundation.

The St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation has awarded a £450,000 grant to the new Fair Havens Hospice, which is currently being constructed in Prittlewell, opposite Priory Park.

Director of the Capital Appeal for the new Fair Havens Louise Gloyne says,

“We’ve been bowled over by this donation. We have been working with St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation, discussing the project and the difference it will make to thousands of local people who need hospice care. We’re delighted that they have decided to make an incredible contribution now we have just passed the half-way mark of construction.”

Havens Hospices had to raise £17.2 million towards the new Fair Havens Hospice, which will care for twice as many patients as it currently can. The charity went out to the local communities of Southend, Castle Point and Rochford a year ago to ask for their support in raising the remaining £2.5 million.

There is now just £400,000 left to raise ahead of the hospice being opened in spring 2020.
