It is the 21st year of this popular 3.5-mile event and organisers at Birketts LLP are hoping to raise £21,000 for Little Havens Hospice as the charity celebrates its 21st anniversary.
Little Havens first began to care for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses across Essex back in 1998 and the first Race4Business was held in the same year.
Over the past two decades, Race4Business has grown in popularity amongst the Essex business community. Hundreds of runners sign up each year and a total of almost £600,000 has been raised for local good causes including Little Havens.
2019 is the last year that Birketts will be organising this event and the organisers at the law firm decided that Little Havens would be the perfect charity partner for this 21st anniversary run.
Rafael Ruiz, Head of Birketts’ Corporate and Commercial team in Chelmsford, explained, “We chose Little Havens Hospice as the beneficiary of this, our final Race4Business, because it is a fantastic charity and the 21st anniversary means so much to both organisations. Race4Business has supported Little Havens in previous years and we have seen how much this money has really benefitted the children and families that it cares for. We hope that more local businesses will enter a team this year to reach our goal of raising another £21,000.”
Race4Business follows a 3.5 mile route along mainly flat ground. It starts in Chelmsford High Street at 6.30pm and passes through Central Park, West Park, Admirals Park and Tower Gardens before finishing in Bradford Street at the back of Birketts’ offices.
It costs £20 per person to take part. All runners will be given an individual timing chip and there will be prizes for the fastest male and female runners, the fastest team, the biggest team and the team with the best fancy dress.
The money raised will help Little Havens to continue supporting families from across Essex when they have been told that there is no cure for their child’s illness. The charity helps to make the journey as comfortable as possible by controlling pain and medication and offering respite and care, for free and for as long as it is needed – within the family home and at the hospice in Benfleet.
Rachel Hawksworth, Business Development Officer for Little Havens, said, “Thank you to Birketts for inviting us to be part of Race4Business this year. It’s a brilliant, fun event – you don’t have to be an athlete to take part as you can walk, jog or run the 3.5 miles to the finish line plus it’s a great team-building opportunity.
“Over the past 21 years, Little Havens has supported so many children with life-limiting illnesses across Essex. We need to raise over £46,000 each week to continue to be there for every family that needs our care so we’re very grateful to everyone who takes part and gets themselves sponsored. Please join us on the 12th June to make the 21st Race4Business a big success.”
