Ann sat in chair at the hospice with sons sat either side of her holding hands

Ann’s story

Ann, 84, came to Fair Havens with trepidation. She was transferred from hospital where she was being treated for pain and complications due to cancer.

The former teacher said, “When I was placed on the bed at Fair Havens, I truly felt as if a weight had been lifted. I was comfortable straight away.

“I’ve been looked after so well. Everyone is so caring and they treat everyone that way – with kindness and compassion.”

Ann’s two sons, Ian and John, visited often. Ian said, “When they said Mum was coming to the hospice, I was quite worried. But as soon as we came through the door, all of that fear was just lifted.”

Once her condition had stabilised, Ann was well enough to go back home. “I’m not worried about dying. Fair Havens has helped me come to terms with that. I’m not afraid.”
