On 20th May, The Old Rectory in Dunton opened its doors to 130 guests for Afternoon Tea in aid of Little Havens Hospices.
The event was organised by Little Havens’ supporters and close friends Dee Anderson and Barbara (Babs) Brand. Dee’s daughter Katie was cared for and died at Little Havens Hospice in 2015; Dee has been a very active supporter ever since and volunteers as a Community Champion with the charity to help raise awareness through public speaking. Babs has also supported Little Havens Hospice in the past including organising a charity auction in December 2016.
“I was only too pleased to organise an Afternoon Tea with Babs to raise vital funds for Little Havens Hospice. The hospice took such wonderful care of my daughter Katie and all of the family, we all really enjoyed coming to Little Havens and always looked forward to our visits. They helped us by ‘Making every day count’ for all of our family.
“When Katie sadly died, Little Havens were amazing and I have such special memories of our time there which I shall hold on to forever. The Afternoon Tea was just one way I could give something back to Little Havens and I’m thrilled it was such an amazing success. Everyone had a fantastic time and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
“I really enjoyed planning and hosting the Afternoon Tea with my lovely friend Dee. Everyone had the most amazing time; Dee and I are thrilled to have raised a fantastic £2,407.30 for Little Havens. We both want to say thank you to all our friends who came along and helped make such a successful and enjoyable afternoon happen.
“Also a big thank you to Jo Cocklin at Allegro Music, Chelmsford who gave her time for free to play the piano so beautifully and entertain our guests on arrival and while they enjoyed their sumptuous tea in beautiful surroundings.
“Little Havens Hospice do such wonderful work caring for local children and families and I want to encourage everyone to do their bit to help them continue caring for youngsters across Essex with life-limiting illnesses and their families for as long as they are needed.”
