On Friday, the Havens Hospices charity shop in Southend celebrated its 1st year of raising money for adults, babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting illnesses.
The store, located on Southend High Street, opened in June 2016 following their relocation from Alexandra Street. The money raised in the shop helps Havens Hospices provide short breaks, pain and symptom management and care for seriously ill adults, babies, children and teenagers across Essex at the end of their lives, whilst giving vital support to the family at the same time.
Amanda Forstyth, Shop Manager who has worked for Havens Hospice for 8 years said,
“I absolutely love coming to work knowing I get to work alongside my fabulous staff and volunteers. We get a huge variety of donations from our supportive local community and we enjoy the challenge of making as much money as we can for Havens Hospices and `Making every day count’ for everyone who uses the hospices.”
The team celebrated with an afternoon of tea and cake for staff and volunteers on Thursday 1st June 2017
Trevor Johnson, Director at Havens Hospices, said
“The work that everyone does at the Southend-on-Sea shop is fantastic and they have worked really hard to make the new shop a huge success so I would really thank them. I would also like to thank the local community for their generosity and support since we moved on to the High Street. Havens Hospices can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters. Every purchase helps an adult, baby, child or teenager living with a serious illness be as pain free and comfortable as possible – for as long as needed; so thank you.”
