little havens hospice join the celebrations at basildon’s second annual mayfest event

19 May 2017

On Saturday 13th May, Little Havens Hospice staff and mascot Betsy the Butterfly joined over 50 other local charities and businesses for Basildon’s second annual Mayfest Celebration.

The celebration showcased what Basildon and surrounding areas had to offer, with performances from local clubs and societies including the Maru Karate Kai and the Basildon Operatic Society. There were also performances from the Essex Army Cadet Band. Mayfest also allowed the local residents to meet staff and volunteers from local charities and services, including Little Havens Hospice.

Little Havens Hospice were joined on their stand by Sharon Vane, owner of face-painting business Harlequin Vane and her colleague Tracy Warren. They were offering face-painting throughout the day and made a generous donation from the proceeds to Little Havens.

Emily Tucker, Community Engagement Events Officer at Little Havens Hospice, said

“The day was fantastic, it was lovely to meet so many of the residents throughout the day and speak to them about the hospice.

“We were there not to fundraise, but to engage with the local residents and raise awareness about the charity and the work that we do for families across Essex who are affected by life-limiting illnesses and their families for as long as they need it. We were incredibly moved by the donations we did receive from residents we spoke to; the specialist care we provide is completely free and that is all because of the generosity of our supporters and they truly are helping us continue to deliver our promise of “Making every day count” for our patients and their families.

“Thank you to Harlequin Vane for joining us for the day; Sharon’s face-painting went down a treat and we really enjoyed having her on the stand with us, she is incredibly talented! Thank you to everyone who came to speak to us or meet Betsy the Butterfly throughout the day. It was fantastic to meet you all.”
