May Bank Holiday saw The Smugglers Den in Hullbridge host a three day event including a pirate themed family fun day as part of the Havens Hospices Swashbuckling Summer campaign and also a music extravaganza with a number of local bands playing.
There were numerous pirate themed fundraising activities including “Guess how much Booty in the Looty?” and an appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow! The Smugglers Den sold commemorative t-shirts for the band night and also did a bucket collection across the weekend.
The Smugglers Den also held an auction of metal crafts and sculptures made from classic motorcycle parts. These items were created by Louis Crump who is a supporter of Havens Hospices; Louis’s wife was cared for by the Fair Havens Hospice’s staff and he fundraises in her memory.
Mark Hale, owner of The Smugglers Den said
“We were inspired to raise money for Havens Hospices by our friend Lou whose wife was cared for by the fantastic staff at Fair Havens Hospice and they gave him vital support after she died. Also when we found out that their summer campaign was Swashbuckling Summer, well we just had to get involved.
“The care that Havens Hospices give to families affected by life-limiting illnesses across Essex is completely free and is available to them for as long as they need it which is fantastic. This is only possible because of fundraising so we are incredibly happy that we have been able to help and are delighted that our staff and patrons have raised a phenomenal £2352!
“I would like to thank all our staff and patrons, Jason West, Steve Colman, Andy Brewer, Greg Brown, Amy Wilson, Faith Jones and all the bands and artists who played over the weekend, all the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle and of course Lou who created the steelwork. Without all of your hard work and support we wouldn’t have raised such a fantastic amount for such a fantastic charity”
