Medal Run, a virtual race company based in Shoeburyness held a virtual marathon throughout the month of March in support of Havens Hospices.
Lisa Allix, Owner of Medal Run, explained
“I’m a keen runner myself and have taken part in Havens Hospices’ events in the past. Following the postponement of the Southend Marathon, I spoke to Havens Hospices and as they already had their medals I offered to stage a virtual marathon during March to raise money for them. We had a fantastic response from both runners who had signed up to the marathon and also complete beginners who just wanted a chance to complete a marathon at their own pace and through entry fees alone, we have raised just under £2400. Congratulations to everyone who took part, whether you were the fastest or the slowest you should all be really proud of your achievement”
Runners had the whole month to complete their marathon (26.2 miles), but many of the runners completed the race in one run. Runners who completed the marathon in one run received a medal and a Run to Remember T-Shirt, runners who completed the marathon within the month received a medal.
Judy Grocott, Events Manager at Havens Hospices, said,
“Well done to all the runners who took part in the virtual marathon and helped raise money for Havens Hospices through doing so. We are really lucky to have such fantastic supporters like Lisa who go out of their way to help our charity and help us continue ‘Making every day count’ for babies, children and adults across Essex with life-limiting illnesses and their families for as long as they need us.”
