Guests from across Essex displayed their finest frocks at a black tie ball in aid of a Little Havens Hospice over the weekend.
On Saturday 8th October, guests attended the Little Havens Community Ball at Pontlands Park, Chelmsford, raising over £9,000 for the charity. Little Havens cares for babies, children and teenagers who have serious life-limiting conditions, providing respite, symptom control and end of life care as well as support for the whole family.
The ball was organised by Darren and Nickola Cooper, the parents of Louis, a child who was cared for by Little Havens before he died in 2006 aged 10. During the course of the evening, Darren and Nickola shared inspiring words about the care that the children’s hospice provides.
On the evening, which was compered by BBC Essex ‘Drivetime’ presenter Dave Monk, over 140 guests enjoyed a three course meal and a variety of entertainment, which included a live band, casino, table magicians, charity auction and raffle. Five families cared for by Little Havens Hospice attended the ball, which was sponsored by The Underfloor Heating Store.
Darren Cooper, Community Champion at Little Havens said:
“Often the best of times are shared with close friends and family and on Saturday I was lucky to have 141 of them. Everyone faces challenges in their lives and it’s how we deal with them that moulds us as people, there’s no right or wrong answers, only confidence and determination to give the best you can. On Saturday the Little Havens Community Ball gave people the opportunity and the confidence to share their own challenges, celebrate the successes of others and look forward to new achievements that are yet to come.”
Ros Luckman, Community Fundraiser at Little Havens said:
“The Little Havens Community Ball was a fantastic celebration and a successful fundraiser for the children’s hospice. We don’t charge a penny for our care– and that’s only possible because of the support from people like Darren and Nickola and all those who attended the ball.”
