More than 700 people were welcomed into Little Havens Hospice on the 26th June for a charity open day.
Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley held their first public Open Doors event. Supporters, volunteers and members of the public were invited into the hospice to find out more about the charity, which cares for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting conditions. The open day on Sunday 26th June saw more than 700 people attend and enjoy stalls, live music and dance as well as tours of the hospice and gardens.
Little Havens Ward Sister, Birgit Duellberg-Webb, says,
“We were absolutely thrilled to receive so many visitors on Sunday. There was a great atmosphere as we showed people the facilities here, such as the Multi-Sensory Room, Hydrotherapy Pool, our bereavement bedroom the Woodland Suite and our beautiful gardens.
“There are many preconceptions about hospice care and what we do here at Little Havens. The truth is that no two days are the same. The Care Team here are incredibly skilled professionals and the children that access our care have a range of very complex conditions. Yes, children do come to us for end of life care and we provide post bereavement support for families, but there is also a lot of fun and laughter here. It is this side of the hospice that we wanted to show the local community - to give them a better understanding of what we provide here and why the support of our local community is so important to us. Because without them we simply couldn’t care for the number of children who need us.
“I hope people went away with a better understanding of what Little Havens does and that they continue to support the charity.”
Little Havens is part of Havens Hospices which also incorporates Fair Havens Hospice for adults in Westcliff.
Fair Havens will be holding an Open Doors day on Saturday 10th September from 11am to 3pm.
