What can volunteering do for you?

Stand Out from the Crowd with Havens Hospices and volunteer!

tony a havens volunteerTony started volunteering at Havens Hospices because his wife Jo stayed at Fair Havens Hospice before she died.

"I help out wherever and whenever I can, whether that's in the Finance Team with filing and shredding, serving tea at Chaplaincy events or running a stall for the Fundraisers.

"Now I can give something back and help others. I feel that through volunteering I am actually achieving something."

Michael is a retired surveyor with a background of property management. Hemichael and havens volunteers volunteers his time to oversea our corporate supporters who often come to the hospices to undertake gardening or maintenance.

"I help out by making sure these supporters get the help they need. There's no set hours as I'll get a call asking if I'm available. I wanted to do something helpful and worthwhile and this really suits me."

Janice was made redundant from her last job after 23 years and wanted to get back into the workplace. The 57 year-old, who has learning difficulties, turned to her Key Worker for support who found a placement at Little Havens Children's Hospice.

"It was sad when I was made redundant, but I love it at Little Havens. I am part of the Housekeeping Team, making sure everything is clean and tidy for the families and children. They look after me too; I have made lots of friends here."

Marie took part in the Young Ambassador scheme after hearing about it through her school.

"I now go in to other schools to encourage other students to sign up. My experience with Havens Hospices has given me the opportunity to be active in the community and to make new friends."

Fully qualified Complementary Therapist Christine Rumsby became a volunteer after completing her competencies with the organisation.
