Charitable Trusts and Foundations

Havens Hospices places great value on the suport that it receives from charitable trusts and foundations.

Income from charitable trusts and foundtations is crucial in maintaining the charity's commitment to offer respite and end of life care for life-limited adults, children and their families.

The following are two examples of how trusts and foundations are making a difference:

Fair Havens benefited from a grant of £10,000 towards the Day Centre's Diversional Therapy programme.

Diversional Therapy is the use of arts through creative therapy - for example, music, arts, drama and writing. These and other opportunities offer the chance for patients to explore their intense of painful thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment. It allows those who have lost meaning and purpose in their lives to be helped to find new meaning and be encouraged to achieve changed goals.

At Little Havens Children's Hospice a grant of £34,000 is helping to pay for a Registered Sick Children's Nurse (RSCN).

The RSCN works as a member of the hospice care team to provide children, who have life-limiting or life threatening conditions, with care, support and assistance in the management of the child's pain and other symptoms. The child's parents and siblings are also offered support and respite care.
The trust has agreed to commit funding for three years.

Also at Little Havens Children's Hospice, the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has made a £500 towards a syringe driver. Our current drivers are becoming obsolete and are no longer safe to remain incontinued use.

This syringe driver will be used to provide continuous administration of painkillers, medication to suppress nausea and other drugs. They are vital for precisely and unobtrusively providing medication to those we care.

18 pieces of this equipment are required, each costing £1,239 and we rely totally on voluntary income to make these vital purchases.

We have a range of projects and activities that can only occur when voluntary donations or grants are provided.

We are keen to develop further relationships with trustees and correspondents of charitable trusts and foundations and would be glad to tell you more about our work and to arrange a visit to either our adult or children's hospice.
