There are three main types of gift you can leave:
- A share of your estate (A residuary gift)This is either all, or a share of, what is left over in your estate once all debts, expenses and specified gifts to friends and family have been paid. Many people prefer this option as it enables them to ensure that their friends and family members are properly cared for first and foremost before the charity benefits.
Wording for a residuary gift
I give (____%) of the residue of my real and personal estate which I can dispose of by Will in any manner I think proper to Havens Hospices (Registered Charity Number 1022119) of Stuart House, 47 Second Avenue, Westcliff on Sea, Essex SS0 8HX to be applied to the general purposes of the said charity. The receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said charity shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
- A specific cash sum (A pecuniary gift)
A specific cash gift of an amount of your choosing.
Wording for a pecuniary gift (cash gift)
I give the sum of _____ pounds to Havens Hospices (Registered Charity No. 1022119) of Stuart House, 47 Second Avenue, Westcliff on Sea, Essex SS0 8HX to be applied to the general purposes of the said charity. The receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said charity shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
- A specific item of your choosing: (A specific gift): A gift of a particular item for example a painting, a share portfolio or a residential property.
Wording for a specific gift: I give my (description of item of property to be given) to Havens Hospices (Registered Charity Number 1022119) of Stuart House, 47 Second Avenue, Westcliff on Sea, Essex SS0 8HX to be applied to the general purposes of the said charity. The receipt of the Treasurer or other proper office for the time being of the said charity shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
If you would prefer, you can leave your gift specifically to benefit either Little Havens Children’s Hospice or Fair Havens Hospice – simply replace the name of the hospice you would like to benefit where it says Havens Hospices in the wording above. The registered charity number and address remains the same.
