The Spiritual Care Team comprises of a full-time Chaplain and a team of volunteers offering pastoral and spiritual support, reflecting the span of mainstream Christian denominations. We also have direct access to other faith leaders.
Our philosophy is based on our belief that spirituality is a part of every person’s life, whether they consider themselves to be religious or not. We are part of a larger team offering psychological, social, and emotional support to our patients and their families.
Our work is based on the original vision of Daphne Hall, one of the founders of Fair Havens Hospice, to provide, “Christ-like care to families and patients in the Southend area”. The name has biblical roots taken from the story of the Apostle Paul who found a ‘fair haven’ when he was in trouble.
What we offer
Within the hospice, we provide a safe and secure environment where patients and their families are given time to express their hopes, fears and anxieties. We respect people of no Faiths and other Faiths. We will contact other Faith Leaders upon request.
We hold regular short services of worship and provide bedside Holy Communion when requested. We will help to plan funerals when needed and provide pastoral support during the early days of bereavement. We also provide Services of Thanksgiving for the lives of those who have died during the year. We are here when needed to listen, pray and to hear concerns and fears of patients and families with a confidential and non-judgemental approach.
