about the chaplaincy team
The Chaplaincy Team offers pastoral and spiritual support to patients and families. Our outlook is based on our belief that spirituality is a part of every person's life and is about what gives meaning to them, whether they consider themselves to be religious or not. We are happy to listen and hear about life stories and have been known to do a crossword or play drafts with a patient.
The team of Chaplains spans the mainstream Christian denominations. We also have other Faith Leader's contact details and are happy to make contact for you upon request.
We are part of a larger team offering psychological, social and emotional support to our patients through our Family Support Team.
what we offer
Within the hospice, we provide a safe and secure environment where patients and their families are given time to express their hopes, fears and anxieties. Our aim is through support and care, to stand with families and help find some peace and hope during the most difficult times of their life.
We hold daily short services of worship, praying for peace for our patients and will provide bedside Holy Communion when requested. We have hand held olive wooden crosses from the Holy Land for our patient's strength and comfort. We can help to plan funerals and officiate when requested by a patient. We also provide a number of Services of Thanksgiving for the lives of those who have died at the hospice during the year.

Our work is based on the original vision of Daphne Hall, one of the founders of Fair Havens Hospice, to provide, "Christ-like care to families and patients in the Southend area".
The name has biblical roots taken from the story of the Apostle Paul who found a 'fair haven' when he was in trouble.
