In 2010 we launched the “Teachers Professional Development Day” and invited teachers from across Essex to spend a day at Havens Hospices, interacting with industry professionals working at the hospice.
Our work with schools and educational organisations is about adding value to the existing curriculum and training provided in schools by incorporating our expertise. At the conference, among other topics, the day included sessions on how we can help teachers support bereaved children and information about available resources, which the attendees found very helpful.
The participants brought to the conference their personal experiences and real life situations which they have had difficulty dealing with. But with conversations with the Youth Team and the Nurses they could understand and relate to them better. The day also included a tour of Little Havens Children’s Hospice.
Members from our Care Team at the hospice also gave the delegates an insight into their involvement with the hospice, including the hospice Teacher, Teaching Assistant and Play Specialist.
